Five different bus companies operate throughout the city. Boarding the bus through the middle door, take a numbered ticket from the dispenser just inside the door. The fares are indicated on the board above the driver, under the number on each ticket. Push the button above the seat to indicate you want to get off at the next stop and put the ticket and fare in the box next to the driver as you exit through the front door.

Services began in September, 1994. This is a new monorail system and with 18.4 km of track is the longest of any such line in Japan. It takes about 36 minutes from "Hondori Station" in the center of downtown to "Koiki Koen Mae" at the Big Arch (the main venue for the Asian Games). Commuters to work and school, as well as the many fans and supporters of the Hiroshima Sanfrecce soccer team, frequently use the new Astram line.
